Ballentine Hall
University of Rhode Island, College of Business Administration
Kingston, Rhode IslandThe design goal of this addition and renovation was to completely change both the interior organization and exterior image of Ballentine Hall, which had housed URI’s College of Business Administration since 1965. The building now expresses the university’s contemporary mission while complementing the campus’s existing buildings.
Relevant Project Information:
- The renovation expands URI’s facilities and augments its technological capabilities.
- The addition of two major wings introduced 54,000 SF for new faculty offices, additional classrooms, and a daylit atrium space at the heart of the building.
- The complete renovation of the existing classrooms included the installation of state-of-the-art audio-visual and multimedia technologies.
- Clad in granite, the exterior of both the new and existing portions of Ballentine harmonizes with neighboring structures on the URI campus.
Sustainable Design:
- Reuse of original building’s foundation and structure
- Locally quarried granite to match the campus
- Daylit atrium
