A re-evaluation of earlier campus planning decisions about growth, facilities, transportation, parking, and circulation.

Project Highlights:

  • Projected rises in enrollment and demand for on-campus housing convinced the university's new administration to revisit a 1998 campus plan.
  • Physical constraints—a built-out core in a mature urban environment—dictated working closely with surrounding neighborhoods to understand their needs and create a vision that served both neighbors and the campus community.
  • The process identified redevelopment of a nearby commercial district as a key common goal. Seen as a key gateway to the campus, the area holds potential to accommodate additional student housing, community-related research space, and retail that would boost quality of life for the university and residential neighbors.
  • The plan identifies where future growth should occur and shows how the university can expand academic facilities, transportation, circulation, and parking. The open process helped the university build a more cooperative relationship with its neighbors.
