VCU’s Engineering Research Building Wins First Place in the IIDA /ASID Virginia Interior Design Excellence Awards
We’re excited to share that the Engineering Research Building (ERB) at Virginia Commonwealth University won first place in the International Interior Design Association/American Society of Interior Designers—ASID Virginia Interior Design Excellence Awards!
Designed in collaboration with Baskervill, the ERB supports economic development initiatives, a hands-on engineering education, and the transition towards interdisciplinary collaboration—all in a vibrant and flexible home. The building features a variety of flexible lab space as well as machine shops, a Digital Fabrication Lab, and group collaboration spaces. While echoing its neighbors’ traditional exterior elements, the ERB’s interiors are forward-looking expressions of engineering. Raw, durable materials—concrete, steel, copper, wood—are used throughout. A functional, industrial aesthetic defines the labs and maker/innovation suite, while collaboration zones are lined with patinated recycled copper wall panels.
